Of course you can use larger tanks. Here is a link to B&G's Buffer Tanks, that go up to 1,040 Gallons and 12" connections for chilled water, and 300 Gallons and 4" connections for heating hot water. You can use toilet exhaust with an ERV or HRV, just check with the manufacturer to make sure their brand allows it.

If you do both trades, then you would want the combination spreadsheet, otherwise the single trade Estimating Spreadsheet. The Plumbing is basically the same thing on both spreadsheets, but if you do only Plumbing then that sheet will allow more accurate metrics such as Cost/Fixture, Cost per Square Foot, etc.

Sounds plausible. Haven't seen any research on a Run-Around-Coil system as you describe. Run-around-coils are used in other applications, I just haven't seen it used here. Please send information if you have any for us to review. Thanks.

The example used the cold water supply as that's where the city pressure is derived from, and so it is the starting point for our calculation. The hot water will also need to have its fixture units counted and sized accordingly.

The chiller contains the refrigeration circuit that provides the medium for cooling the water sent to air handlers and fan coils within the building. Having a fan at the chillers evaporator would require running large ducts through the building to each space if this was even possible. One of the benefits of using a chiller is that chilled water carries a lot more energy in small pipes compared to air using sheet metal ductwork, and so it requires much less space in the building to distribute.

Sounds like something isn't connected or set correctly. Has it ever provided hot water on demand as intended? Is there a timer that isn't allowing it to run when you normally use the hot water. The timer should allow you to set the pump to run just before your wife normally uses the hot water at the remote sink. Make sure that the timer is set to circulate hot water before she needs it, that way you don't waste energy. Running of the cold water won't matter at the time of use, as the hot water should be timed to already be waiting for the user.

The heating coil can be used when dehumidification is required to drive down the humidity and then bring up the temperature so that it's not too cold, and it can also be used in cold climates where additional heat is needed to supplement any terminal zone heating. The boiler would also feed any VAV reheat Coils are Fan Coils that are not shown in the image.

Depending on the system type, heat will transfer from the solar heated water by transmission or conductance through a heat exchanger into the cold water storage tank.
